The Second team were the only one's to walk away with victory this weekend. Looking to bounce back from an unlucky defeat the week before, Rovers comfortably won 3 - 1 against Chelt Saracens 1V. The score line should have been more, but 3 points was the desired outcome. The First team travelled to Winchcombe and were lucky to only lose 1 - 0. The Third Team travelled to Cleevonians, where yet again they had their own referee. there were some shocking decisions and this took it's toll on Rovers who lost the game 3 - 1.

Under 18's Tuesday night 7.30 till 8.30
Second & Third teams Tuesday night 8.30 till 9.30
First Team Wednesday night 8.00 till 9.00
JUST THE ONE
The First team were the only victorious one's this weekend, as the Second's and Third's both lost. The First team beat Brockworth Albion 4 - 1, thanks to a hat-trick by Pat Daly and the fourth by Jon Adams. The Second team found themselves 3 - 0 down against Finlay Rovers Res, but managed to get it back to 3 - 2 and Dave Payne was denied the equaliser late on after his free kick came back of the bar. The Third team lost 5 - 0 to Tewksbury Rovers Res and will be looking to put things right next week.
ANDOVERSFORD GAME CANCELLED
The Second team's game against Andoversford tonight 10/09/08 has now been cancelled due to the weather. This means the Second and Third Team's will kick off their season on Saturday. The Second's are away at Finlay Rovers Res, and the Third Team will entertain Tewksbury Town Res at the Beeches. The First team will look to build on their opening day victory, with a home match against Brockworth Albion res.
WASH OUT
Along with the majority of the Cheltenham League, this weekends First and Second Team games fell foul to the poor weather conditions. Hopefully the Second Team will be able to get their season kick started away to Andoversford on Wednesday night. Again this is weather permitting. If this fails Rovers will be hoping that all three teams will be in action on Saturday.
9 GOAL THRILLER IN CURTAIN RAISER
The First Team got the ball rolling in the new season for Rovers in a thrilling 5 - 4 victory against a very young Cheltenham Saracens. Rovers were slow of the mark and found themselves one down after five minutes, but Pat Daly soon had Rovers level. Rovers playing a new formation and coming to terms with playing against good opposition went into the break 2 - 1 down. An inspired team talk by the "three amigos" inspired Rovers at the start of the second half. In a twelve minute period Rovers had scored three goals through man of the match Tom Barton, sealing his hat-trick from the spot after a Saracens defender had rugby tackled Tom Herbert to the floor and then received his marching orders. Even with ten men Saracens did not give up and managed to draw level. But up stepped Pete Hambling, fresh of the bench Hambling created 3 great chances and 3 great saves from the keeper within five minutes. He then took the ball in his stride and beat the last man before placing the ball home to give Rovers their first victory of the season at Fortress "square net's" Balcarass.
LEONARD STANLEY TOURNAMENT
On Sunday 20 July three teams were entered into the Leonard Stanley Sixes Tournament. On what looked like being a scorching day none of the Rovers teams managed to sizzle their opponents. Hoping to build on their great efforts at Abbeymead, all three Rovers teams did not make it past the group stages. which was a blessing I think as they avoided another four matches at eight minutes each way, when really six matches at 6 mins each way was ample. Well done to all who made the effort to turn up and enjoy the day.

FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Here is your chance to challenge The Rovers Management and your fellow team mates. There is a Rovers Elect League established. So please go to The Fantasy Football Page to enter your team into the season long event. GOOD LUCK !
PRE-SEASON TRAINING
ALL NEW PLAYERS WELCOME
Pre-season training has began and will continue every Tuesday 6.15 until 8.30 at The Beeches, until September.
DON'T BE LATE & BRING PLENTY OF WATER
ABBEYMEAD 6 A-SIDE TOURNAMENT
On Sunday 15 June three sides were entered into the annual Abbeymead Tournament. With absentees and injuries a few new faces were on show and Mr Charlton Rovers himself (Ian Courtney-Smith) found himself in an unusual roll of Manager. In the cup competition the B team managed to make it the Quarter-Finals losing to eventual winners Longlevens 3 - 2. The A Team made it to the Semi-Finals of the Plate losing on penalties to the eventual winners and the C Team also made it through the group stages but were knocked out by the Runners Up of the Plate in the Semi-Finals. We Were that close to an all Rovers Final. Well done to everybody involved you represented the club in the correct manner.
HERBERT BREAKS KNEE
Mark Herbert will miss the start of the season and maybe even the whole season pending on further scans of his broken knee. The central defender and First Team captain will have to wait 6 weeks to find out if he has damaged his cruciate ligaments. The amateur boxer decided to pick a fight with a taxi and the outcome was unanimous, broken knee and a spell in hospital. His pre-season will consist of reading the green cross code and holding the stop watch for the rest of us.

DADS/MANAGERS TOURNAMENT
On a hot and sunny Saturday, the Seniors returned to the scene of their 2007 triumph to defend their title.
In a slightly altered team, Andy Payne, Tom Price and Marc Beedon were unable to return, so in stepped Dave Payne for his brother and Mike Daly for Marc. So with only 7, the defence began.
The first group game saw the Seniors take a 1-1 draw, with Dave Payne netting for the seniors. Two 2-0 victories followed, with Rich Berry getting 2 goals and Matt Chilvers the 1, supported by an own goal.
With only two teams going into the semi’s from each group, the Seniors were joint second and needed just a point from their last group game. They got it with a 0-0 draw against Sage Stevens’ team, which meant that both teams went into the semi’s.
The Semi final saw the Seniors take on a youthful Saturday club side, and with the scores at 0-0 into the second half, Dave Payne dinked the ball into the area for Matt Chilvers to volley it into the net. The victory was completed in the last minute, when Matt Chilvers took the ball at the half-way point and went on a solo run to finish the game off at 2-0, the seniors had managed to reach the final for the second year.
The final saw a re-match against Sage’s team and despite some tough tackles, the Seniors held there own against a team with some good young players in it. Unfortunately it was not to be, as the final score ended 1-0 to Sage’s team.
All in all though it was a good defence of the tournament and hopefully next year we can reclaim it.
The Seniors squad was:
Ian Courtney-Smith, Rich Berry, Matt Chilvers , Dave Payne, Mike Daly , Mark Williams , Pete Oates
PRESENTATION AFTERNOON
The social and fundraising committee have agreed to organise this years presentation event, and have decided to change the format to a less formal fun day on 7th June 2008. This will take place after the Dads/Managers tournament which will be held at The Beeches from 12 - 2.30. The presentation will start at 3pm. A BBQ will be available at the school but there will be no BAR. You are more than welcome to bring your own alcohol. Lets try and support this as best we can. Then we shall head into town for a knees up.
ROVERS WIN DOUG MASLING TROPHY
To celebrate the life of the late Doug Masling, his beloved Charlton Kings AFC took on local rivals Charlton Rovers AFC in a Friendly match as part of the Charlton Kings festival.
In what will hopefully be the first of an annual event, the teams took to the pitch on a very wet and windy Bank Holiday Monday. It was Rovers who made the first probing attacks and with almost half an hour gone, Manager/Captain for the day Tom Price ran down the left wing and squared the ball to Matt Chilvers to open the scoring with a neatly placed shot into the bottom right corner. Just before half time though, Charlton Kings hit back with there number 2, striking the ball perfectly from 25 yards into the corner of the Rovers goal. 1-1 at half time. The second half got under way, and again Rovers made the early attacks, and with Charlie Homer on the wing, a well crafted individual goal was taken as he ran into the box onto a through ball from Tom Price and curled the ball into the Kings net from an acute angle. With the second goal, came a strong surge from Rovers as Matt Masling, Grandson of Doug sprinted down the wing and dinked the ball into the area, to be met by the head of Mark Herbert. At 3-1 the game was almost over, as the weather seemed to sap the mental strength of Kings as well as any killing edge that Rovers may have had, but there was time for Johnny Adams to get a fourth. Matt Masling again got down the left wing and cut the ball back to the edge of the box for Kinky Adams to slot home.
Final score 4-1, but despite the final score the game was played in a very friendly manner and was enjoyed by all despite the weather. Tommy Price accepted the Doug Masling trophy in what was his first piece of silver wear as a manager. Hopefully the first of many. Well done to all those involved as it was an enjoyable morning, and thanks to Tom Masling for organising it in remembrance of his father.
Charlton Rovers Squad: Chris Courtney-Smith, Rich Berry, Tom Price, Joe Price, Mark Herbert, Charlie Homer, Tom Green, Dave Payne, John Adams, Adam Gyde, Matt Chilvers, Marc Beedon, James Kerr, Jordan Cooper, Matt Masling, Steve Rogers.
DOUG MASLING TROPHY
On Monday 26 May Charlton Rovers will be playing in a memorial match for the Doug Masling trophy. Mr Masling was a long serving official with Charlton Kings FC. In his memory a memorial match has been planned as part of the Charlton Kings Festival. A select few players from all 3 of Charlton Rovers teams will represent the club in the game Vs Charlton Kings. The match will take place at The Beeches with a 10.00 am kick off. All "ROVERS" support would be welcomed.

THOMAS STEPS DOWN
Adrian Thomas will now step down as the Senior's Secretary. Adrian has put a lot of work in behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the club. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his hard work and wish him luck in any future position he takes on at Falcons AFC. All is not lost though, replacing him is Ian Courtney-Smith, who is not only the clubs number one linesman but we are sure he is capable of filling Adrian's boots. So we wish you good luck in your new position Mr Courtney-Smith.
IT'S ALL OVER
Saturday saw the season come to a close, and it did not finish according to plan. The First team lost to 3rd placed Star 2 - 1. With Tewksbury Dynamos losing this meant the First team finished 4th. The Second team who were already relegated took on St Marks and eventually lost 6 - 3. The Third team were victorious though beating Cleevonians 3 - 1. So that is it for another season, but keep an eye out for up and coming events that will take place through the summer.
END OF SEASON GATHERING
After our final league games on Saturday we are planning to go back to the Royal. A buffet is being put on and it will be nice to unwind with a few cheeky beverages. The plan then is to head into town for a proper drinking session. All team members are welcome to participate.
RELEGATION CONFIRMED
The Second Team fought tooth and nail against promotion chasing Whaddon Reserves, but were on the wrong end of a 2 - 1 scoreline. For the first time in his managerial career Rich Berry had to contend with Relegation instead of Promotion. Berry said " I could not of asked more of the players they gave it their all". What could of been worse was the fact that relegation could of been confirmed against local rivals Falcons, but they were not good enough to condem it.
THE LOCAL DERBY
The only game of the weekend saw the Second team take on local rivals Falcons. In a must win game this match produced everything. End to end action, smooth flowing football and great sideline banter. This match also turned out to be a six goal thriller. With Rovers trailing 3 - 0 at half time an inspired Rich Berry team talk fired the team up and goals from Stu Hamilton, Jack Cooper and an own goal pulled the game level. But neither side had any fuel left in the tank after this enthralling game to grab a winner.
ONE OUT OF TWO
The First team beat Brockworth 4 - 0 to move upto fourth in the league. A hat-trick from Captain Mark Herbert and a fine volley from Jon Adams sealed the victory. The Third team took on high flying FC Electrics in the re-arranged fixture and were unlucky to lose 2 - 1. All eyes will now be on the local derby Saturday as the Second team need to pull off three victories to stay up.
ONLY THE ONE
For the second time this season the First team lost to a team who only had a few shots on goal and took all of them. Rovers completely outplayed Whaddon but could not find the back of the net whereas Whaddon took their chances. The Second team lost 3 - 1 and have now sunk to the bottom of the table. The Third team were victorious, beating Cleevonians away 3 - 1.
VICTORIOUS
The First team produced their best football in the first twenty minutes of this match and two contenders for goal of the season as they beat AC Olympia 2 - 1. The first was a Tom Barton 30 yard strike which looped over the keeper and into the net. The second came 5 minutes later when the ball was crossed to the edge of the box finding Pete Hambling, whose swivelling volley found the top corner. Rovers took their foot of the gas after this and AC got a lucky own goal. But Rover's held strong and were worthy winners.
VICTORY AND DEFEAT
The First team made it 6 wins out of 6 with a 3 - 1 victory over Bourton Rovers. Jack Cooper opened the scoring with a fine lob, Mark Herbert made it 2 with a piledriver from the spot. Man of the match fo the second week running Jon Adams, added a superb third from the edge of the box to keep up Rovers fine run. The Third team played top of the table Southside and with the scores level going into the last minute Rovers thought they had done enough to snatch a point. But it was not to be as Southside scored with the last kick of the game to deny Rovers any share of the points.
MARCH PLAYER OF THE MONTH
First Team - Jon Williams
Second Team - Sam Williams
Third Team - Peter Oates
FIVE OUT OF FIVE
The First team made it 5 wins on the trot after beating Hi Tech Rangers 2 - 1. In appaling conditions Rovers went 2 - 0 up thanks to Jonny Williams taking both his goals well. A first man of the match award for Jon Adams was well deserved and a gritty all round performance from the team, who could not tell who was who by the end of it, due to the mud and rain. In the two Charlton Kings Derby's only the Third team played as the weather took it's toll on the Beeches. Adam Irwin scored for the third team as they came away with a point at Falcons. Marc Beedon thought he had won it in the last few minutes only to see his shot tipped wide.
TWO WINS AND A DRAW
The First team made it 4 wins out of 4, with a demolition job on Hi-Tech Rangers. Rover's ran out 7 - 1 winners thanks to a hat-trick by Pete Hambling and a man of the match display from Jonny Williams. The Second team got a valuable win, beating relegation rivals Apperley 3 - 2. Rover's still need 4 points in their last 4 matches and results to go their way to try and avoid the drop. The Third team tried to get back to winning ways but were robbed in the last minute, this ending 3 - 3 against Chelt Civil Service 1V. The only good news was that player Manager Matt Chilvers scored again to make him joint top goalscorer for the season.
ONLY THE ONE
The First team notched another victory, to match the Third teams run of 3 out of 3. Beating Dowty Dynamos 4 - 1. Coming from behind again Rovers dominated this game from start to finish and were unlucky to concede a sloppy goal. The Second team played Winchcombe and were unlucky to lose 3 -1, but they scored that all important goal they wanted. The Third team were trying to make it 4 wins on the bounce, but unfortunately they could not manage this, losing 2 - 1 to Tewksbury Dynamos Res.
TWO OUT OF THREE
The First team picked up another victory with a 3 - 1 win away to Bredon. Two goals from top scorer Pat Daly and one for Tom Price completed the comeback after Rovers had gone one nil down. The Second team in need of a victory lost 3 - 0 at top of the table Smiths. Rovers need 3 points to drag themselves out of the relegation zone after Phoenix also lost. The Third team made it 3 wins out of 3 after beating high flying Sherbourne Harriers 3 - 2.
ALL WINNING WEEKEND
With only the First and Third team's in action this weekend both managed victory. The First team travelled to Northleach to try and get back to winning ways. They managed this with ease beating Northleach 2 - 0 with both goals coming from Pat Daly. Rovers picked themselves up after a disappointing February to get back to playing and winning the way they can. The Third team took on high flying C & G. Rover's proved to strong for their opponents edging the game 4 - 3 and making it 2 wins on the trot.
FEBRUARY PLAYER OF THE MONTH
First Team - Matt Payne
Second Team - Adam Gyde
Third Team - Ryan Temple
ONE OUT OF THREE
The First team suffered defeat again losing 4 - 1 to Tewksbury Dynamos. Yet again Rovers lost the first half but drew the second, if only the first half did not count. The Second team lost 5 - 0 against Tewksbury Town, leaving their survival hopes in tatters. The Third team however recorded another victory, with a fine 4 - 1 defeat of Gaffers Res.
PROMOTION HOPES TAKE A DENT
The First team's promotion hopes took a serious dent. Losing 3 - 1 to fellow challengers FC Barometrics. The Second team's survival hopes took another blow losing 3 - 0 away to Broadway. The third team completed a losing weekend, travelling to Tewksbury and losing 4 - 0.
RACE NIGHT
A race night is being held on Friday 4th April at The London Inn. This is being organised by Charlton Rovers AFC and is an adult only night and will start at 7.30 pm. It is £5 a ticket and there will be a buffett available. Everyone is welcome to attend this event, please contact - SageStevens5@aol.com if you wish to book tickets.
A WIN AND A LOSS
The Second team took on Bishop's Cleeve in what was a must win match. Cleeve fielded a strong team and this proved to be the undoing of Rovers. Having little possesion and creating few chances, condemned Rovers to defeat and leaving their Division 3 status hanging by a thread. The Third team took on Northleach and came away with their second win of the season. In a comfortable 3 - 0 victory, Rovers were hardly troubled at the back and goals from Tom Price (2) and a 30 yard screamer from Lawrence Martin sealed the victory.
TEAM BUILDING NIGHT
The next team bonding night is on Saturday 16th February. To celebrate Joe Price's birthday and of course continue building our team morale. A night out on the town in Cheltenham, Details to be arranged
NON WINNING WEEKEND
The First team travelled to Whaddon United to try and take 3 point's of their promotion rivals. But were unable to losing the game 3 - 1, when a point looked on the cards after the first half ended 0 - 0. The Second team were playing survival challengers Pheonix and hoping to give them some breathing space between the bottom three. This did not happen after Rovers lost the game 4 - 0. Leaving them in the bottom two and fighting for survival.
JANUARY PLAYER OF THE MONTH
First Team - Mark Herbert
Second Team - Dave Payne
Third Team - Greg Wynter
A WIN, A DRAW, A LOSS
The First team continued their pursuit for promotion with a 3 - 0 win over Gala Wilton, Making it 6 league wins out of 6. Goals form Pat Daly (2) and Jon Williams sealed the comfortable win and kept Rovers push for promotion alive. The Second team drew one all with FC Electrics thanks to a goal from Dave 'in the hole' Payne. The team were unhappy with a draw which shows they are coming of age the more they play. The Third team could not live upto last weeks enthralling 25 minute match, losing 3 - 0 to FC Barometrics res. Missing top scorer Greg Wynter, who is recovering well from his ankle break, they failed to hit the target.
WYNTER BREAKS ANKLE
The Third team were 3 - 1 up against high flying FC Electrics when scorer of a stunning 25 yard lob, Greg Wynter broke his ankle and the game had to be abandoned. Rover's were cruising after conceding in the first minute. The Second Team travelled to Tivoli and came away with a draw after Stu Hamilton scored in the first minute. The First team played their second quarterfinal in as many weeks against Division one leaders Newton FC. Rover's played well but lost the match.
WINNING RUN IS OVER
The First team started the new year looking to continue where they left off in 2007. A home County Cup Quarter-final match against Ebley. Rovers dominated the match but were unlucky to lose 2 - 1 to a poor Ebley side who only had 2 shots on goal. But as Rovers found out, it is goals that count. Rovers will have to wait till next year now to try and get their hands on the one trophy the club has never won. The Third team started the new year how they started the season with a 1 - 1 draw against Star's Third team. In a game which Rovers lead for 85 minutes, yet again they lost concentration at the death and only came away with a point when it should have been 3.
LEAGUE CUP
Rovers First team have been drawn at home to Newton Heath, in the Quarter-finals of the league cup. In what will be a great test to the ever improving Rovers, Newton sit top of Division 1 very comfortably, and have been scoring for fun. Rovers always love the underdog label and will go into this knowing they have a good chance of reaching the semi-finals. Have the mighty Rovers got the prowess to progress.
DECEMBER PLAYER OF THE MONTH
First Team - Jon Williams
Second Team - Josh Gadsby
Third Team - Lawrence Martin
*MERRY CHRISTMAS*
TWO OUT OF THREE
The First team finished the year in fine form. Beating Brockworth 3 - 0 thanks to a hat-trick from Tom Barton. Rovers proved they are one of the best team's in the league again, with this great team performance. The Second team succumbed to bottom of the table Bishop's Cleeve, losing 1 - 0. The Third team finally WON a game they beat Northleach Res. Hopefully all teams will be firing on all cylinders after the Christmas break.
SECOND TEAM VICTORIOUS
The Second team finally got their second win of the season. In an easy match Rovers were the better side all round. Playing some good football Rovers took the lead on the quarter of an hour mark and scored two more in the next 10 minutes. Steve Rogers and Matt Courtney-Smith (2) scoring the goals. The Third team lost to Cleevonians on penalties in the cup. They were unfortunate not to progress to the next round in normal time.
LEAGUE CUP
Only the First team were in action this weekend, and they took on Cheltenham Saracens for the third time this season in the third round of the Senior Charities Cup. Rovers won the game 4 -2 with goals from Pat Daly (2), Jon Adams and Mike McCarthy. Man of the match Jon Williams made an impact on the right wing to help Rovers to their sixth win on the trot.
COUNTY CUP DRAW
The First team have been drawn at home to Ebley Omega FC. Rovers will be looking for revenge after travelling to Ebley two seasons ago and losing in the second round of this competition. Ebley from Stroud Division 2, Are currently top of the table, so this will be a tough game for the ever improving Rovers. With victory in mind can the mighty blues make it to the semi-finals!!!
FIRST TEAM PROGRESS
The First team continued their fine form beating Star Res. 3 - 2 in the County Cup. Two goals by man of the match Pat Daly and one by Jon Adams sealed the comeback victory. Elsewhere the Second team took another blip in their revival, losing 4 - 0 at home to Apperley.
